August 2, 2015 Stephanie Nowers

The Islanded Grid Resource Center was pleased to host a panel recently at the Asia Pacific Resilience Innovation conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. IGRC Facilitator Chris Rose moderated the panel, which focused on island energy challenges and solutions and included Darron Scott, the CEO of Kodiak Electric Association; Kord Christianson, President of TDX Power Inc.; and Mark Kneubuhl, Coordinator of the American Samoa Renewable Energy Committee. Along with about 100 attendees, they discussed Kodiak Island’s success with a wind-hydro-flywheel-battery system that is powering the community with 99.7% renewable power, TDX’s work on St. Paul island using wind with diesel offs, and American Samoa’s strategic energy planning and renewable energy work including wind, solar and geothermal.
